Call goes out to young Bracknell movie makers
Following the success of last year’s community safety film competition for schools, Bracknell Forest’s Council’s crime and disorder reduction team is offering young movie makers the chance to have another go.
This year’s contest is open to the borough’s secondary schools, youth clubs and projects and Bracknell & Wokingham College. Students and young people are invited to submit a 30-second silent video film with a crime reduction / community safety message of their choice.
The subject matter could be preventing young people becoming victims of street crime, drug/alcohol misuse, cyber bullying – or anything they choose. The film can be live action or animation.
The winning video will be shown on the 10 community TV screens across the borough and on the Bracknell Forest Council website. The prize will also include a digital camcorder donated by Bracknell-based Panasonic and individual prizes for the movie making team.
The closing date for entries is Wednesday, March 31 and the winner will be announced after the schools’ spring holiday. A prize presentation ceremony will be held in May.
Cllr Iain McCracken, the Bracknell council’s executive member for public protection, said: "Although we are fortunate to live in a low crime area, young people are concerned about safety in their communities.
"This competition gives them the opportunity to make a film about what’s important and relevant to them and I hope we get even more entries than we did last year.
"The standard set by last year's winners, Ranelagh School, was very high but I’m sure there are lots of talented young people out there who can do even better."

Last year’s winning film was produced by the digital animation club at Ranelagh School, and singing superstar Robin Gibb from the Bee Gees was on hand to present the prizes.
