A total of 75 Bracknell drivers were stopped as part of speed checks in Birch Hill and Hanworth yesterday (28/4).
The checks were carried out on Ringmead, outside South Hill Park and Leisure Centre, and Hanworth Road, outside Pines Junior School, Bracknell between 7.30am and 12.50pm.
They were organised and carried out by Bracknell PC Bob Wade, Road Safety Constable from the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership, PC Michael Foot, Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Birch Hill and Hanworth, and officers from the Roads Policing Department and Special Constabulary.
Thirty-seven Bracknell drivers were given Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) of £60 with three penalty points for excessive speed and 38 drivers were given roadside education for speeding. Of the 38 drivers who received education about their speeding, two drivers were issued £60 FPNs for not having an MOT, one driver was given a FPN of £60 and three penalty points for having defective tyres, and one car was seized for having no insurance.
PC Bob Wade said: “We arranged this check at the request of neighbourhood officers, after residents highlighted their concerns about speeding in the neighbourhood. Those travelling at 37mph and below were offered roadside education. Those travelling at 38mph or above were given a FPN.
“The Road Safety Team and Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership will continue carrying out these road safety checks when it is highlighted as a problem in a neighbourhood.”
Bracknell PC Michael Foot said: “It is disappointing the number of people still speeding through this neighbourhood, and further operations of this type will continue to support the community in tackling this issue.”
