Town Centre Bracknell radio system upgraded to digital

The radio system that helps businesses, police and their partners to fight crime in Bracknell town centre is being upgraded from analogue to digital. The new-style radio link will go live on Wednesday (28/4).

“Going digital will make our town centre radio system more efficient, more user-friendly and provide much clearer reception,” said Marilyn Morgan, co-ordinator for Bracknell Businesses Against Crime (B:BAC).

B:BAC comprises local retailers and businesses, the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership and Bracknell Forest Borough Council,. Members exchange information about the activities and whereabouts of known criminals, ensuring that everyone is alerted to any potential threat. The scheme works on the basis of members holding town link radios and sharing information with town centre CCTV and the police.

Although the Bracknell town link system has been running successfully for a number of years, the radio equipment now needs upgrading. The new digital service is being provided by DCRS (Direct Communications Radio Services Limited) linked with Princess Square Security and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead CCTV, based in Tinkers Lane, Windsor.

On Wednesday (28/4) DCRS Customer Support Manager Will Rae will be giving B:BAC members one-to-one training on the new radios. While he is doing so, a DCRS engineer will install the new infrastructure at the security hub in Princess Square, replacing the existing equipment.

The training will take place in the B:BAC meeting room in the Bracknell Town Council offices, opposite Bentalls on the High Street, between 10.30am and about 3.30pm.
